He was predeceased by: his parents, John J. Penatzer and Kathryn Penatzer (Koch); and his siblings, Mary Elizabeth "Betts" Cline, Charlotte Kelly, Joanne Hillegas, John R., Paul, Ernest and Raymond.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou Penatzer (Hoffman); his children, David (Teresa), Virginia, Carol (David Illig), Richard (Lisa), Sharon, Rodney Pearcy and Donna (Ronald Vella); and his brother J. Martin (Erika). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
