He was predeceased by: his father John Yale Makins; his siblings, Jeffrey Scott Makins and Marianne Makins; and his stepfather David Makins. He is survived by: his mother Myrtle P. Miller; his fiancée Christine Popish; and his siblings, Jacqueline Myers, Bethany (Ray Hoffman), Dave Makins (Sandy), Don Makins (Fran) and Lori Makins. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
