He was predeceased by: his wife Grace Arlene Zeigler Freed; his parents, Howard Freed and Hannah Freed (Derstein); his brother Harold Freed; and his siblings-in-law, Paul Zeigler, Cleta Moyer Freed, Pete Hespell and Joan Roberts.

He is survived by: his grandchildren, Refugees, Immigrants of Vietnam, Korea, Congo, Sudan, India, Argentina and Iraq; his children, Sharyn Burden (Henry), Mary Lou York (Larry), Richard Freed (Karen), Jan Turner (Freed) of Souderton, PA, Kristine Villa (Bob) and Phil Freed of Phoenix, AZ.; his grandchildren, Marcus Burden, Kyle Burden, Corrie Neff (York), Melissa Biros (York), Steven York, Amanda Hasenmayer (Freed), Andrew Freed, Laura McGuigan (Turner), Eric Turner, Andrea Vulcan (Villa), Allison Villa, Jacqueline Villa, Derek Freed, Tyler Freed and Nicholas Freed; his great grandchildren, Christopher, Edward Burden, Alexa, Hailey, Ryder Neff, Nathan, Austin Biros, Hunter, Reagan York, Cassidy, Carson Hasenmayer, Ethan, Haley McGuigan, Elijah, Cedar Vulcan, Bodhi Williams and Harvey D. M. Freed; his great great grandchildren, Gavin, Carter and Lyvia McGuigan; his brother Howard Freed; and his parents-in-law, Lorraine Gery (Zeigler), Gloria Zeigler (Paul), Elizabeth "Betty" Hespell (Zeigler), Kenneth Zeigler, Faye (Homme) and Branson Roberts (Joan Zeigler). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Harvey has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Souderton Mennonite Home Agape Fund.
