He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Cowan and Bertha Cowan (Mackey); his son Eric Russell Cowan; and his siblings, Norman Cowan and Shirley Markle.
He is survived by: his wife Rhoda "Kay" Cowan (Deemer); his son Jeffery Cowan of Ellwood City; his brothers, Albert Cowan and David Cowan of New Castle; his grandsons, Joshua Cowan and Cole Cowan; and his great grandchild Kamden Cowan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
