He was predeceased by: his parents, Garland J. Yates and Crisse Alafair Counts Yates; his wife Fay L. Yates; his daughter Leisa May; and his granddaughter Lydia Hope.
He is survived by: his children, Garner R. Yates, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Hague, VA and Michelle D. Wenger (Nelson); his grandchildren, Joshua Wenger (Christa), Jonathan Wenger, Lora Estep (Cory), Shauna May and Stephanie May; and his siblings, Dimple Yates, Bobby and Charles Yates. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
