He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hughes and Frances Hughes (Zkosky); and his siblings, Joseph, Edward, Bernard Hughes, Catherine M. "Kitty" Donovan, Geraldine C. "Gerri" Flynn, Mary Mulroy and Frances Mack.

He is survived by: his sister Jean Dower of Ashland; and his caregiver James E. Donovan (Kathleen) of Shenandoah Heights. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins.
