He was predeceased by: his parents, Mortimer Gibbs and Eunice Stroud Gibbs; his wife Fannie Gibbs (Westcott) of Charleston, SC; his siblings, Portia, Modestine Gibbs, Katie Holloway, Benjamin F. Gibbs, Sr., George W. Gibbs, Sr. and Larry E. Gibbs; and his nephew Ivan Gibbs.
He is survived by: his children, Cheryl E. Gibbs of Washington, D. C., Sandra Mavin of Washington, D. C. and Dr. Marvin L. Gibbs, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren, Marva Gibbs of Greenbelt, MD, Ricardo Mavin and Marvin L. Gibbs, III (Tres) of Gambrills, MD; and his great grandchild Kaede Gibbs. He is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews.
