He was predeceased by: his parents, Jake Short Jr. and Viola Dana Steward Short (Steward); his wife Emma Lois Phillips Short; his son Justin Lydell Short; his great-niece Chastity Grace Short; and his brother Dennis Samuel Short.
He is survived by: his sons, Montel Orlando Short (Rica) and Kenyon Maurice Short; and his sisters, Norene Idella Short Holden and Debra Artemius Short. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and cousins.
