He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis, Sr. Hertzog and Sarah Wenrich Hertzog; his grandson Matthew James Hertzog; his siblings, Louise (Harold), Marjorie (Ernest) and Paul; and his brother-in-law Robert Gettis.

He is survived by: his children, Gregory (Kathy), Debra Stevens (Douglas), James (Lynn) and Steven (Joan); and his siblings, Rev. Edith Gettis and Lewis Hertzog, Jr. (Ann). He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
