He was predeceased by: his parents, David McElhenny and Jane Phillips McElhenny; and his siblings, Jane Behlke, Barbara Wozney, Elizabeth Secor, Lois May, Clare Bird, Billy, David and Earl.

He is survived by: his wife Anna "Kay" Bonifanti; his children, Paul and Karen Kowanick (Mike) of Scranton; and his grandchildren, Michael, Zane, Quinn, Zach and Kate. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
