He was predeceased by: his parents, John Franks and Martha Miller Franks; and his siblings, Patrick Franks, Wanda Guthire and Gertrude Malinky.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Louise Marker Franks; his children, Tim Franks of Ohio, Jim Franks (Kathy) of Arizona, Sandy Zerilla (William) of Scottdale, Edward Lochinger of Myrtle Beach, SC and Dale Lochinger of Scottdale; and his brother Bob Clair of California.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of John to Jacobs Creek United Methodist Church.
