He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Becky Doerfler (Piccolo); his son David Craig Doerfler (Martha); his grandchildren, Anna and Bradley Doerfler; his parents, William Doerfler and Lillian Doerfler; and his siblings, Jeff, Lori Doerfler Mark and Marine.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UPMC Children's Hospital Free Care Fund.
