He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Gmiter and Wanda Gmiter; and his siblings, Patrick Gmiter, Mary Lou Melczak and Carol Veltre.

He is survived by: his wife Judith A. Gmiter (Shemonitz); his sons, William Gmiter (Janice) and James Gmiter (late Kim); his siblings, Susan Scheller (Russell) and John Hlawka (Marge); his grandson James (Quin); and his children, Ryott and Atlas.
