He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Earnest and S. Evelyn Earnest (Wonders); his wife Marian E. Earnest (Egolf); and his siblings, Mary Jean, Harry Irvin, Roy Clair, Wayne, Dale F. Earnest, Pauline Skok and Madeline Mussante.
He is survived by: his children, Vickie J. (Gordon Roose), William D. Earnest, Richard E. Earnest, Rosemary (Wilbur Imler), Linda J. Dull and Larry J. Earnest (Dawn); and his sisters, Shirley Ritchey and Carol Weyant of Raleigh, NC.. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
