He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Townsand and Florence Townsand (Setzer); and his brother Ronald "Buck" Townsand. He is survived by: his children, Ricky Townsand and Sandy Townsand; his grandchildren, Calista Townsand, Jacob Townsand and Sydney English; his siblings, Gerald, Kenneth "Joe" Townsand and Marlene Coyle; and his close friend Fran Campbell. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
