He was predeceased by: his parent Lloyd Helen Newell (Duke); his son Maverick Carl Newell; his siblings, Victor "Bud" Newell, Alvin "Trucker" Newell, Allen Newell, Elaine Kunkle and Lucile Pratorious; and his grandchild Gabriel Shoup.

He is survived by: his wife Sally Newell (Hawk); his children, Christina Newell Hollingsworth of Virginia, Douglas C. Newell Jr. of Saylorsburg, Rachel Shoup (Wesley) of Pen Argyl, Travis Newell (Amanda) of Wyoming, Janell Newell of Saylorsburg, Hope Newell of Saylorsburg, Magehn Newell (Josh Bryan) of Bangor and Angelica Newell of Saylorsburg; his brothers, Lyndon "Pete" Newell of Stroudsburg and Roland "Sonny" Newell; and his grandchildren, Houston, Andrea, Claire, Auston, Zachary, Savannah, Alexander, Jacquelyn and Theon.
