He was predeceased by: his parents, James W. McPhillips and Alice Russell McPhillips; and his siblings, James and Rosalie. He is survived by: his wife Linda Bartish; his children, Dr. David McPhillips (Joann) and Dianne Kotasenski (Paul); and his grandchildren, Kyle Kotasenski (Megan), Matthew and Nicole McPhillips. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Church or charity of the donor's choice.
