He was predeceased by: his parents, Mathias Herzing and Mary Zimmett Herzing; and his sister Edna Buerk. He is survived by: his wife Esther Vollmer; and his children, Paula Coudriet (Robert "Denny") of St. Marys, Mary Hahn (Chuck) of Kersey, Gloria Kaveney (Tom) of St. Marys, Debbie Swackhammer (Richard "Dutch") of St. Marys, Janice Blair (Jan) of Ohio, Joyce Sorg (Anthony "Tony") of St. Marys, Michael Herzing (Kim) of Wyoming, Matthew Herzing (Lori) of Colorado, Mark Herzing (Kate) of Colorado and Gerald "Jay" Herzing of Texas. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
