He was predeceased by: his mother Susan Burba (Hedge); and his brother Jason Friel. He is survived by: his wife Kristine Friel (Bringhurst); his father James J. Friel; his children, Cameron Friel (Emily) and Carter Friel; his granddaughter Aliyah Friel; his brother David Friel (Rebecca); his nephews, Alec, Kyle and Ryan; his niece Ciera; and his great-nephew Rowan.
