He was predeceased by: his parents, Steven Svonavec and Helen Svonavec (Bator); his siblings, Steven, Donald Svonavec, Elizabeth Aust, Margaret Knapp, Dorothy Steinkirchner, Helen Zborovancik, Agnes Hay and Jane Van Aller; and his grandchildren, Lucas, Valerie and Michael Tad Svonavec.
He is survived by: his wife Grace I. Shockey; his sons, Joseph Svonavec Jr. (Rosemary), David Svonavec (Elizabeth Louise "Betty), Anthony Svonavec (Diana) of Somerset, Michael Svonavec, James Svonavec (Lynn) of Harrisonburg, VA, John Svonavec (Cindy) of Somerset, Patrick Svonavec (Joy) of Hidden Valley and Vincent Svonavec (Donna) of Rockwood; and his brother John "Jim" Svonavec of Somerset. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
