He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred "Greenie" Thompson and Ruth Thompson (Neville); and his brother Ronald Thompson. He is survived by: his son Ken Thompson (Ali) of Roaring Spring; his grandchildren, Misti Fisher (Kelsey) of Curryville and Kenny Thompson of Roaring Spring; his stepgranddaughter Keri Snyder (Craig); his great grandchildren, McKaela (Kamden), Kaden (Payton) and Keegan; and his spouse William Reed of Saxton. He is also survived by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John's memory to the donors local humane society.
