He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Smith and Viola Smith (Brown); his former wife Jean Elizabeth "Liz" Smith (Myers); his stepdaughter Ida Mae Wright; and his siblings, Alfred Smith, George E. Smith, Carl Allen Smith, Samuel Smith, Arnold D. Smith, David Smith, Pat Smith, Mike Smith, Clara Ellen Toy and Florence A. Custer.
He is survived by: his wife May Bell Smith (Fair); his son Joseph R. Smith (Linda) of Rimersburg; his stepchildren, Allen Lamison (Amber), Ed Lamison (Carina) of Kittanning, Deb Bennett (Ron) of Kittanning and Jennifer Kemmer (Chad) of Distant; his stepson-in-law Lenny Wright of Kittanning; his grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Seybert (Brian), Michael Kriebel (Charity), Brian Kriebel (Jennifer), Matthew Kriebel (Kayla) and Tim Smith (Angie); and his stepgranddaughters, Jenna and Emma. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren.
