He was predeceased by: his father Donald Shaffer; and his wife Ami (McQuaide). He is survived by: his mother Bettie Ann Shaffer (Hoffman); his son Jacob Shaffer (Fiancee' Samantha Wilson); his grandson Roman Shaffer; his daughter Erin Shaffer; and his siblings, Debra Macut (Matt), Lee Ann Shaffer, Leslie Johnson (Mark) and Kimberly. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
