He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Blumhardt and Helen Blumhardt (Farrington); and his wife Ellen T. Blumhardt (Goldacker). He is survived by: his children, Ellen T. Palardy (Richard), Geraldine A. Berner (Thomas), Richard R. Blumhardt, Jr. (Coleen), Maureen L. Barkley (Charles) and Michael J. Blumhardt (Kerry); his grandchildren, Ryan Digney (Brittany), Christiana Hoffman (Ilya), Christopher Palardy (Sarah), Alyssa Palardy, Alexa Berner and Brandon Palardy; and his siblings, Len Blumhardt (Bessie), Janeanne Hillmantel and Linda Newcomb (Keith). He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
