He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren L. Schlessman and Mary Jane Schlessman (Gerhart); and his sister Jackie Schlessman. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Schlessman (Messner); his children, Jamie L. Schlessman (I. Neill Reid) of Freeland, MD and Jason L. Schlessman (Kelly Ruff) of Media; his grandchildren, Catherine Reid, Jett and Andalusia Schlessman; his sisters, Shirley Camilli (Robert) and Sheila Weaver (Robert); and his siblings-in-law, Sandra Richard, Christine Cavanna (Richard), Carole Buffington (Al) and John C. Messner (Maureen). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
