He was predeceased by: his parents, Helen McGroarty (Ryan-Price) and John J. McGroarty, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ann McGroarty; his children, Lynn M. McGroarty-McIntyre (Christopher McIntyre) of Exeter Township, Susan M. Dillinger (Rick Dillinger) of Exeter Township and Joseph M. McGroarty (Mallory McGroarty) of Mt Joy, PA; his grandchildren, Michael Hearty Jr., Lindsey McIntyre and Brennan Dillinger; and his siblings, Ann Murphy (Frank) and Tom McGroarty (Donna).
