He was predeceased by: his mother Catherine E. Stump (Shubrooks). He is survived by: his father Lee Schappell; his daughter Justine Schappell; his brother Jason Stump; his stepmother Elsa I. Schappell; and his grandmother Rev. Catherine A. Shubrooks.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
