He was predeceased by: his parents, Judson James and Margaret Ann Vroman Bastion (Collister); his wife Barbara J. Vroman (Day); and his brother David Vroman. He is survived by: his children, James Jr. "Mike" Vroman (Christine) of Canton, Melinda Starkweather (Lee) of Blossburg and Gwen Marshall (Gary) of Liberty; his stepchildren, Donald Sechrist of LeRoy and Ginger Lyle (Robert) of Forestville, NY; his grandchildren, Skylee, Colby, Samantha, Chrystal and Andrew "Bubba"; his siblings, Dawn Route (Gordon) of Roaring Branch, Bonnie Vroman of West Burlington, Russell Vroman (Bonnie) of Mansfield, Jean Takach of Canton, Mark Vroman (Linda) of Ralston and Starr McLaughlin (Dennis) of Ralston; and his sister-in-law Robin Gardner of Linden. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
