He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert James Smouse and Dorothy F. Smouse (Guignet); and his siblings, Charles Smouse (Chuck) of Amherst, NY and Doris Gaglairdi (Smouse). He is survived by: his wife Karen Paulette (Basile); his children, Jackie Smathers (Olie) and Michael Smouse of Pleasant Gap; his great grandchildren, Theo and Leon; his sister-in-law Rose Smouse of Amherst, NY; and his nieces and nephews, Robert Smouse, Chuckie Smouse, Krisan Hahn (Smouse), Mark Gaglairdi and Kathy Jordan (Gaglairdi). He is also survived by six grandchildren.
