She was predeceased by: her husband John "Bo" Schmalz; and her sister Anne Wuenstel. She is survived by: her children, Curt and Becky O'Connor; her grandchildren, Courtney O'Connor, Kayleigh Jernigan and Riley O'Connor; and her brother Robert Pettigrew. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Animal Advocates, 35 Wabash Ave., Pgh., PA 15220.
