He was predeceased by: his parents, William Shertzer and Mary Rhineer Shertzer; and his brother Charles "Butch" Shertzer. He is survived by: his wife Joan L. Leed Shertzer; his children, Roy L., Jr. (Jami Shertzer) of Lancaster and Tammy M. Shertzer; his grandchildren, Hunter and Paige Shertzer; and his siblings, Steve (Donna Shertzer) of Lancaster and Carol Conrad of Lancaster.
