He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gates and Mildred Gates; and his siblings, Willis Gates, Gary Gates and Glenna Lou Franko.
He is survived by: his wife Sally Gates; his children, Darrell Gates (Randy), Darlene Clark (Paul) and Dena Hochbein (Bill); his grandchildren, Shawnda, Molly, Brett, Bryan and Matthew; and his sister Sondra Grossman. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
