He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gerber and Vinnie Wingard Gerber; his wife Joan Miller; and his siblings, Bertha Baughman and Peter Gerber.

He is survived by: his children, Laura Swanson (Mike) of Kersey, William Gerber (Yvonne) of St. Marys and Stephen Gerber (Patti) of Kersey; his grandchildren, Allison Pistner, Courteney Pistner, Rachael Wicks, Kyle Gerber, Cole Gerber, Shawn Meyer and Tracy Uhl; and his sister-in-law Lorraine Gerber of St. Marys. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
