He was predeceased by: his parents, Newton C. Grainey and Martha Grainey (Ward); his siblings, Kathleen Booher, George "Boy" Grainey and Donald "Newtie" Grainey; and his stepson Michael P. Getz.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia A. Grainey (Knarr); and his children, Thad W. Grainey (Barb), Troy L. Grainey, Kimberly A. Hicks (Coy) and Newton Hamilton. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
