He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Schachinger and Clara Schachinger (Ulmer); and his sisters, Mildred Schachinger and Claire Krause (Harold). He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, Lindsay Schachinger, Kathi Mestayer (Mac), Chris Reedal, Elizabeth Bartlett (Stephen) and Frederick Schachinger, Jr. (Sarah); his grandchildren, David Paxson, Leah Paxson, Kristin Reedal, John Reedal, Sarah Hirsch, Emily Hirsch, Regina Schachinger, Frederick Schachinger III, Eloise Schachinger and William Schachinger; and his sister Carol Schachinger. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
