He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert H. Schaeffer and Ethel Reed Rumberger; his former wife Helen Thomas Schaeffer; his wife Mary Ellen Krammes Schaeffer; his stepchildren, Sandra Greish and Dale Clark; and his brother James Schaeffer.
He is survived by: his daughters, Debra and Susan; his stepchild Terry (Lewis Hughes) of Schuylkill Haven; his brother Rodney Schaeffer of Orwigsburg; and his caregiver Ruth Ann Gernert.
