He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert W. Spitler and Esther V. Strauch Spitler; his former wife Peggy Young; his wife Donna; and his siblings, Donald, Robert, William, Francis, David Spitler, Loretta Howell, Ann McMullen, Jean Geary and Patricia Spitler.

He is survived by: his children, Robert Spitler (Janet) of Virginia Beach, Greg Spitler of Schuylkill Haven, Richard L. Spitler (Nellie) of Schuylkill Haven, William Spitler, Sandra of Deer Lake, Patricia Parker (Jason) of Maryland and Terry Pavelko of Pottsville; and his sister Nancy Menaugh. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
