He was predeceased by: his parents, James W. Thomson and Mildred S. McMichael Thomson. He is survived by: his wife Mary Jo Romiti Thomson of Canonsburg; his children, Lisa Vilsack (Frank) of Penn Hills, Shane Thomson (Lynne) of Industry and Toni Jo Gardner of Washington, PA.; and his siblings, Suzanne Dellapina (Ray) of Oakdale and J. Kay Thomson (late Carol) of McDonald. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
