He was predeceased by : his parents, Henry John Topper and Claudia K. Topper (Busick); his son William "Billy" Topper; his aunt Betty Hanks; and his brothers-in-law, Jerry Strube and Ralph Davis.

He is survived by : his wife Laurie Topper; his children, Mary Patricia Topper Poist, Kathleen Topper Stesch (Michael), Robert Francis Topper (Rose) and Jeanne Marie Topper (Anne); his siblings, Pat Strube, Claudia Davis and Michael Topper (Kimberly); his former life partner Patricia Topper Mehl (Edward Jr.); and his pets, Parker and Barney. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
