He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell J. Hayes and Margaret Hayes (Elliott); his wife Elizabeth S. (Harding); and his sisters, Josephine, Margaret and Mary.
He is survived by: his children, William R, Jr. (Lauren), Elizabeth S. Hayes and Mary Ann Moore; his grandchildren, Thomas P. Moore and Abigail E. Hayes; and his sister Anna Wise (Robert).
