He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael M. Bernat and Pauline A. Bernat (Majercik); his grandson Collin Feeney; his siblings, Thomas E., Donald P. Bernat and Mary Ann Bernat; and his brother-in-law William L. Neyman.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret M. "Marge" Bernat (Watts); his children, Michele R. Bernat of Apollo, Milissa R. Feeney (Robert) of Allegheny Township, Marcia R. Broman (Brad) of North Apollo and Michael R. Bernat (Tara) of North Apollo; his grandchildren, Erika Joseph (Dan), Allison King (Adam), Brenna Keating (Sean), Aileen Barker (Zach), Aaron Broman (Aliah), Megan Broman, Rachael Broman, Claire Broman (Sam Krempasky), Ryan Bernat, Taylor Bernat, Mira Bernat and Mathias Bernat; his great grandchildren, Caleb, Olivia, Emily, Bree, Giana, Gideon, Malachi and Ada; his sister Pat Neyman of McKees Rocks; and his sisters-in-law, Sonja Dodson of Delaware and Donna Bernat of Apollo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
