He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Bates and Anna Bates (Fosco); his wife Barbara Bates (Sambrick); and his siblings, Ronald Bates, David Bates and Joyce Griffin.
He is survived by: his children, Stephen Bates (Christine), Karen Bates and Carl Bates (Maria); his brother Robert Bates; his grandchildren, Anthony Bates (Lisa), Stephanie Bates, Stacy Bates, Nick Bates, Rachel Bates and Tiffany Doner (Bryant); and his close friend Peggy Silks. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, December 10th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Paul's Catholic Church (2007 New Hope St, Norristown, PA 19401). A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, December 10th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A committal service was held on Tuesday, December 10th 2024 at 12:15 PM at the St. Patrick Cemetery (2400 Dekalb Pike, East Norriton, PA 19403).
