He was predeceased by: his parents, John L. Atherton and Dorothy M. Atherton (Heidel); his wife Judith A. Atherton (Booher); his daughter Karen Atherton; and his siblings, Frank Atherton, Charles "Yud" Atherton and Rose Lantz.
He is survived by: his children, John G. Atherton (Susie), Tammy Bowser (Andy), Jo Ann Bellotti (Randy) and Mose Atherton; his siblings, Scott Atherton and Pat Harven; and his grandchildren, Kristy, Alicia, Reneé, Marcia, Andrew, Chevelle, Jessie, Hunter, Tayler, Rylee and Gentrie. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.
