He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Winter T. and Jane E. Varner (Luther); and his aunt Alice Brookhart. He is survived by: his wife Patricia J. Varner (Homan); his daughters, Annette Benson (Eric) of Cairo, WV, Darlene Shaw (John) and Valerie Werbeck (Warren) of Mocksville, NC.; his grandchildren, Avery, Noble, Miles Benson, Michelle and Michael Werbeck; and his great grandchild Joziah Frederick Benson.
