He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. Johnston and Pat Johnston (Hornberger); and his siblings, Amy Hiles, Doug and Todd Johnston.

He is survived by: his sons, Jeremy and Steven Johnston; and his brothers, Jim of New Bethlehem and Jeff Johnston of New Bethlehem. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
