He was predeceased by: his parents, John Matviya and Mary Matviya (Gundy); and his daughter Anne. He is survived by: his wife Christine Matviya (Blankenship); his children, Amy Weir (Jason), Maggie Patterson (Zeke) and Daniel; his grandchildren, Sam and Maddie; and his sisters, Peggy Kooser, Dorothy Lydic (Harry) and Betsy Natale (Lou). He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
