He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis I. Hanley and Anna Hanley (Millard); his daughter Jane; his son-in-law Dennis Denman; and his stepdaughter Carolyn Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Ann Huttenstine Smith; his children, Francis Hanley (Christine Shabin), Alice Hanley of New Jersey and Catherine Pitula (Bruce) of New Jersey; his grandchildren, Nicole Foy (Kevin) of New Jersey, Shannon Hoffman (Donny) of New Jersey, Ryan Hanley of New Jersey, Kyle Richel of New Jersey, Kerry Richel of New Jersey, Elisa DiAmbrosio of New Jersey, Jesse Pitula of New Jersey, Tara Pitula of New Jersey, Benjamin Smith (Tiffani) of Hobbie, Neil Smith (Brynne) of Nescopeck, Brittany Gobin (Ethan), Michelle Richburg (Jake) and Casey Smith; and his great grandchildren, Miley, McKenna Haney, Brannon Foy, Gianna, Anthony, Ava Grace DiAmbrosio, Aaron, Lexi Pitula, Joelle Smith and Addison Richburg.
