He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor R. Castner and Gladys Brill Castner; and his wife Joanne. He is survived by: his sons, Bruce Castner (Joy) of Austin, Texas and Paul Castner (Barbara) of Effort, Pennsylvania; his sister Jean Belits (Peter) of Washington; his grandchild Chris Castner (Rebekah); his great grandchild Chloe; his granddaughter Kate Castner (RJ); his great grandchild Hayes; his grandsons, Henry Castner and Jon Castner (Tara); his great grandchildren, Rhys and Casey; and his grandchildren, Sarah Castner and Brandon Castner.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
