He was predeceased by: his parents, George W., Sr. and Ruth Sones (Shoemaker); his wife Mary E. Sones (Ohnmeiss); his daughter Kathy Shoemaker; and his siblings, Harold Sones, Edger Sones, Stanley Sones, Donald Sones, George Sones, Jr., Eleanor Sones, Bobby Sones-McWilliams and Edna Worthington.
He is survived by: his children, Marti Rider (Ron) of Muncy, Tammy Hipple (Terry) of Montgomery, Lynn Swizinsky of Muncy and Randy (Edith) of Muncy; his grandchildren, Melissa Snyder, Shannon Snyder, Breezie Gabel, Jamie Shoemaker, Shelly Shoemaker, Melanie Knarr, Naomi Feigles, Moriah Hipple, Brittany Hipple, Bethany Hipple, Kaitlynn Hipple and Caleb Hipple; and his brother David Sones of Muncy. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
