He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert H. Wertman and Ruth Wertman (Feigles); and his brother Robert J. Wertman. He is survived by: his siblings, Daniel (Susan Wertman), Kevin (Lorraine Wertman), William (Tammie Wertman) and Lovetta; and his brother-in-law Robert Hill of Lairdsville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
